Center for Latex Allergy Dentistry Launches in Red Bank New Jersey

The Center for Latex Allergy Dentistry launches Latex Safe Dental Care in Red Bank, New Jersey.

Latex sensitivity can lead to severe reactions ranging from a rash to anaphylaxis and death. In response to the increased prevalence of latex allergy Dr. Robert Korwin of Red Bank, NJ has opened the unique Center for Latex Allergy Dentistry, one of a handful of latex safe dental centers in the United States. The Center has expertise in treating patients with allergies specific to latex, along with other environmental allergies such as fragrances and perfumes.

Dr Korwin and his staff have taken this unique step as a result of allergies that have been noted by their patients who have not been able to find a latex safe environment for their simple or complex dental care requirements. By taking the necessary precautions to guard against contact dermatitis and latex sensitivity for the benefit of their patients as well as staff that also suffer from contact allergy and perfume allergy, The Center for Latex Allergy Dentistry provides a latex and allergen safe environment for outstanding dental care.

Contact dermatitis and latex allergic reactions by patients in dental and medical environments have recently become very prevalent.  In order to prevent these reactions, every item used in Dr. Korwin’s office is thoroughly evaluated for latex content, including emergency supplies, gloves, masks, lab coats, orthodontic elastics, writing instruments, rubber bands, rubber stamps, and many other dental and office supplies. Any products containing latex are immediately discarded, and a non-latex item substituted.

When health care workers change gloves, the protein/powder particles become airborne and can be inhaled. When someone with a latex sensitivity/allergy inhales the latex-contaminated air, they can develop respiratory (breathing) distress! This reaction can occur without warning and may be fatal within minutes. The Center uses non latex gloves exclusively and screens all dental patients for latex allergy.

The Center conducts comprehensive staff training and any changes in protocols are continuously monitored by Dr. Korwin and staff, to create a latex-free environment with the use of non-latex dental clinical and office materials in order to avoid the health risk posed by latex which is prevalent in dental and clinical supplies. All staff members are involved in maintaining a latex safe environment.

Dr. Robert Korwin’s initiative to create the Center for Latex Allergy Dentistry and a latex-safe environment is part of his preventive campaign for implementing the dentist’s important role as a health care provider to improve the health of his large family of patients.  Dr. Korwin recommends that all health care providers be educated about the signs, symptoms and diagnoses of latex reactions.  Dr Korwin is a member of the American Latex Allergy Association.
